Installation, Care & Maintenance

HomeInstallation, Care & Maintenance

Customised Vanities use a number of different materials and suppliers in our products. Please note this is a guide, but other manufacturers whose components we use have their own instructions and care/maintenance instructions.

Position – Please note our board products that we use for both internal and external surfaces are water resistant, but not water-proof, so care needs to be taken. Vanities should not be installed closer than 300mm to wet areas (direct water contact/spray). Taps and wastes, s-traps should be thoroughly checked for leaks after installation to avoid water pooling on/inside the vanity.

Specifications – Customised Vanities are not responsible for the fit of the vanity in your space, measurements need to be checked prior to ordering your vanity. This should be done by the installer you wish to use who should check sizes as well as plumbing locations. Spec sheets are available on all our products. Please note, if you are fitting between two walls, filler panels will be required to ensure doors/drawers open correctly. Please note this on your order.

Ventilation – Bathroom ventilation is a critical component of our warranties, please ensure your bathroom has an adequate exhaust fan vented externally to ensure moisture levels are safe for both our products and other aspects of your room. Failure to properly ventilate your bathroom voids our warranty.

Installation

Tradesman-our products should only be installed by a licensed tradesman (plumber, carpenter, builder, etc). Failure to comply with this voids our warranty.

Steps

  1. Ensure the plumbing rough-ins have been done to suit your new vanity. Spec sheets are available for your vanity once you place an order to ensure the set-out is correct.
  2. Check products for any damage within 24 hours of delivery, and prior to installation. No damage claims will be accepted outside of this period, nor after installation of the product.
  3. Ensure that wall and/or floor is ready for install. Walls and floors should be fully tiled behind the vanity, tiling after vanity installation could cause moisture to be trapped behind the vanity and cause mould or further damage. We do not recommend planing/scribing of our vanities for fitment and instead suggest packing if your walls or floor are not level. Planing any surfaces of the vanity voids our warranty. Note: this does not include any filler panels the may be used, however if planed they will need to be painted/sealed prior to fitment.
  4. Walls need to be level, straight and plumb where the vanity is being installed. Failure to ensure this could effect the alignment of doors and drawers if not done correctly.
  5. Mark out your plumbing points on the back of your vanity, and drill out with appropriate hole-saw, note it should be drilled from both sides to avoid chipping of the board. Once holes have been drilled/cut, the exposed surfaces need to be painted with a suitable product to avoid moisture penetration of the board.
  6. Fixings of the vanity to wall are at the discretion of the installer, however we recommend minimum fixings of 75mm screws into the top rail of the vanity into wall studs at no greater than 600mm centres. Installer will need to locate studs and pre-drill holes accordingly.
  7. Once vanity is fixed to the wall, adjustment of the drawers and door gaps should be made. Please note the instructions for the Blum hardware are available on our website.
  8. Place a bead of silicone around the whole perimeter of the vanity on the top edge of the cabinet and place the stone top on carefully, in the correct position. Use a clear, neutral cure silicone, wipe off excess after installation of the top. This is critical to sealing the vanities top edges so needs to be done correctly to preserve warranty.
  9. The back edge of the stone top should then be siliconed to the tiled wall behind to avoid moisture getting behind the vanity. For a floor mounted vanity, the kicks around the base will need to siliconed to the floor to avoid moisture penetration. Failure to do so will void your warranties.
  10. Fit-off of tapware, basins, wastes and traps needs to be done by a licensed plumber to the recommended specifications relating to the products used. These need to be checked over thoroughly for leaks as these could damage the vanity surfaces. Please also check for damage prior to install as no returns can be made after they have been installed.
  11. Any painted surfaces that happen to be chipped or scratched during installation need to be touched up/sealed to avoid moisture penetrating the board. Touch up kits can be purchased in matching colours. Please note that we cannot guarantee a perfect colour match as there are many factors including temperature, surface preparation and application that can effect the outcome.
  12. Drawers and cupboards should be vacuumed to remove any wood shavings/debris after installation, as these can effect the operation of drawer runners and hinges.

Care, cleaning and maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will keep your vanity looking great and operating properly. As we use a number of different products and brands, you will need to review their own care and maintenance procedures relevant to your order.

  • For our polyurethane cabinets, and cabinet internals use only a clean microfibre cloth with a very mild, non-abrasive detergent. Ensure to completely dry after wiping down.
  • Monitor your painted surfaces regularly for any chips or scratches that expose raw materials, these need to be sealed to avoid moisture penetration.
  • Check inside your vanity for leaks regularly, as failure to do so may result in water damage to the cabinet.
